Jerry Emanuelson's Blood Chemistry Tests
I have put the results of my 2010 blood chemistry tests online. This test was done after I started taking 1000 mg. of timed-released niacin every day for several months. Due to the niacin, my HDL is much better than it has been in the past. My total cholesterol is too low for the long term, but I am satisfied with it being at this level for a while since I spent several years with my HDL much lower than I would like for it to be. With this cholesterol profile, I am probably able to dissolve some of the plaque that has undoubted accumulated in my arteries over the years. (I am also taking a low dose of simvastatin every other day. My DNA tests have indicated that I am unlikely to have any adverse reactions from statins, and the results of this every-other-day dosing of simvastatin seems to be only beneficial so far.) My 2010 test shows a much higher blood glucose level and higher HbA1c level than I would like to see. There are two reasons for this. One reason is probably my increased intake of niacin. The other reason is that I experienced carbohydrate cravings during the winter of 2009-2010, and was too distracted with other things to do what was necessary to get the carbohydrate cravings completely under control until after I saw the results of these tests. (I've always had some problems with seasonal affective disorder, which often causes problems with carbohydrate craving.) Consequently, I ate too many high-glycemic carbohydrates during the weeks before this blood test. I have put the results of my older personal blood chemistry tests, with comments online as well. That set of blood chemistry data shows the results of my blood tests for the years 2007-2009. I will have even more personal medical information available here later. |
